ARTIST STATEMENT

By creating with ceramics, I strive to push the boundaries of this material and explore the narrative of time. From my point of view, ceramic is not just a medium but a vessel in which memories, stories and emotions can be stored and passed down for generations. My goal as an artist is to make each piece unique, with its own personality and story. Through my work I aim to capture moments that last longer than myself and create works that will live on even after my lifetime. Color is an essential element of my work, as it helps me create visuals that capture the emotion I want to convey. Through vivid colors, I am able to push the materials and organic shapes to a more dramatic level. Furthermore, by using a range of natural hues, I can bring out subtle details in my artwork that would otherwise be overlooked. Color plays an important role in creating eye-catching visuals that convey the message I want to communicate.

About SLOANE ANGELL

Born in Virginia in 1983, Angell previously worked as fashion designer for a few large US brands in New York in the early 2000’s. In 2016, he apprenticed under Master Potter Akio Nukaga in Japan. He remains the only American to ever apprentice or work for Mr. Nukaga. Angell established his own studio in 2017. His process begins with sketching, which he then translates into clay— evolving the three-dimensional form as he goes. The artist lives and works in Los Angeles.
