Collection: JULIE MOON

ARTIST STATEMENT

I tend to think of my process in two parts where forms are a built canvas for surface design. Decoration is a way for me to expand on and individuate work, allowing me to explore multiple ideas about a single object. The pieces I’ve included in this presentation play with lines on a surface. By blending coils of clay onto the outside of traditional vessel forms, a three-dimensional line becomes a shallow wall and starts to blur the separation between decoration and the body of a pot. This method of building onto forms, allows me to alter their silhouettes and the space they occupy, not just through the volume contained within them.
